The second week is already behind us. The shift to remote work was smooth and uneventful. Restricting ourselves to virtual space could lead to challenges in day-to-day communication and personal connections in the long run. Yet, so far, we have not encountered any difficulties with living up to the commitments we made.
At the time of a global pandemic, making the team's remote work efficient is not an opportunity but a matter of survival for many businesses. Working from home deprives employers of monitoring others. How will the desired result be achieved then? Can the working process be kept under control? How can the eight-hour work be guaranteed?
In short: I have no idea. I do not have answers to these questions simply because I cannot relate to them. Instead of control policies, let's let employees progress with their work freely and independently. This attitude would be beneficial for everyone.
Before the outbreak, Istvan Marhefka and I talked about self-organization at Integral Vision. The challenges emerged in the last few months and some possible solutions.
