Museum of the Hungarian Language

State-of the art and user friendly website for an institution that supports the preservation of the Hungarian language at various levels.

The Museum of the Hungarian Language is Hungary's only museum dedicated to the native language. It serves as an education center and knowledge dissemination hub and plays a key role in the preservation of national identity through permanent and temporary exhibitions, museum educational activities, programmes and publications.

Challenge

Redesign from the basics

The museum's old website was outdated both in terms of its visual appearance and functionality. Not only did the site need a completely new visual design, but the structure and architecture of the website had to be built from scratch.

During the design process, special attention was paid to ensure that the new website would reflect the museum's diverse activities in a transparent way and be easy to use for different target groups: students, teachers, researchers and visitors interested in literature and language history.

Solution

Retought content and interfaces

From the beginning of our collaboration, it was very important to get to know how the museum works and develop the content types and navigation structure together. As we were not migrating content from the old site, we reviewed and considered in detail what we wanted to keep from the old version and how we wanted to recreate it on the new site. We also placed great emphasis on familiarising the museum staff with the editorial functions of Drupal and teaching them to manage the editorial interface.

One of the most important added benefits of the project was that we were able to work together as a real team, so by the time of the launch,  we could hand over the revamped site to experienced hands.

The result of our joint effort is a clean, modern and easy-to-navigate website that we hope visitors will enjoy.
