Fairy Tale Museum

Here even the spiders spin tales

The Fairy Tale Museum considers it a fundamental task to prepare and emotionally support early literacy development from a young age, fostering an understanding of literature. It aims to enhance linguistic awareness, speech and reading comprehension, as well as the necessary skills, provide enriching experiences, and engage visitors with both classic and contemporary children's literature.

Challenge

Two museums in one place

The main driver for website renewal was the expansion of the Museum. Beside the Fairy Tale Museum which provide programs and exhibitions for pre-school and primary-school children and their families, the Three-billed Duck Story Creator Workroom -aiming upper secondary school students - was about to open in September 2020 .

Thus, the Museum wanted to have a website where the two entities - even they are unequivocally part of one institution - can have their own website with their exclusive visual identity. The structure of the old website of the Fairy Tale Museum did not enable visitors to get insight of the creativity, colouration and professionalism of the Museum, which provides not only experiences and information regarding classical and contemporary children literature, but contributes to diverse skill development.

Solution

Unified backend system and playful interfaces

Overall, the Mesemuseum websites are a great example of how to provide attractive and relevant content for different age groups in the digital space, while ensuring that design and functionality are aligned with user needs. The websites, hosted under separate domains for the two museum units, allow for customized content and design.

Despite being located on different domains and having distinct visual identities, the structure, visual style, and branding of the two websites are harmonized with each other.

The shared backend system ensures that the museum staff can easily keep both websites up to date through a unified interface and database.
