Gábor Kovács Art Found­a­tion

Since 2003, the Gábor Kovács Art Foundation has been working to make the Hungarian public more open to contemporary art. In addition to promoting fine arts, KOGART places great emphasis on supporting talented young artists and building a world-class contemporary art collection primarily featuring Hungarian artworks.

Challenge

Clear design with advanced searchability

At the end of 2023, a Foundation colleague approached us with the idea of revamping their website. They were looking for a partner for the structural and visual renewal of a Drupal 7 website that had been in service for many years. The look and functionality of the site was far behind current trends, and it no longer adequately supported the Foundation's objectives. 

They wanted a website that would reflect their professional and aesthetic values in a way that would be worthy of national and international recognition, and that would present the collection items and the entire database in a clear, transparent and easily searchable format for interested visitors, museums and exhibition spaces. 

Solution

Two websites with one backend

In the first stages, work was carried out on two strands. On the one hand, an architectural redesign took place to identify which functions and content types of the old site were really needed and which new solutions would better serve current and future needs. 

At the same time, the visual design process served the dual purpose of creating an online identity and establishing the content focus that was the basis for the clean interface, 

The new website gives prominence to the artworks themselves, with typography and use of space contributing to the focus on visuals. In terms of structure, the collections themselves became more prominent than before, and the artists themselves got more emphasis due to the new content type and listings. In addition to the collection classification and dedicated list pages, an easy-to-understand filtering system based on well thought-out criteria helps users to navigate and search the entire collection.

A special feature of the project is that the Drupal 10 framework serves not only kogart.hu, but also the website of Gábor Kovács' private collection.
