The aim of the Association of Hungarian Literary Memorial Houses is to support the preservation, operation and development of literary memorial houses. The Association also provides professional support for establishing new memorial houses, organizing new exhibitions and related scientific research activities, so that each memorial house can become a lively cultural hub for the communities of their location.

Challenge

Design refreshment and simplification

The previous website of the Association was in need of a full upgrade. Furthermore, it had several unused functions, so the aim was not only to renew it, but also to simplify it. Together, we came up with a modern and clean visual design that retained the original design elements and created a new architecture that would reflect the actual use of the site.

Solution

Targeted functionality and searchability

The first step in the collaboration was to get to know the old site and decide which functions to keep. As the new content was not migrated to the new site it was important to come to a common understanding of what would be omitted and what would be needed to be added by the editors. We have also produced a step-by-step editorial manual that is easy to use for the association's staff so that once the new site is up and running, the list of memorial houses can be easily expanded.

During the design and development process, we paid particular attention to the map search function so that the memorial houses can be easily found by location and author.
