A digital platform not only to promote the institution but to educate and to inspire

The Hungarian National Museum collects, preserves and presents the historical relics of the Carpathian Basin and Hungary since 1802.

Challenge
Decade-long collaboration with the national museum
The Hungarian National Museum, as the nation's museum, truly views its website as a digital mission. The institution considers the mnm.hu website as its online gateway, which, as a virtually extended space of the museum, is open to anyone at any time. Accordingly, the website has been under continuous development to showcase the museum's diverse activities – from temporary and permanent exhibitions to later virtual exhibits, programs, scientific results, databases, publications, information for visitors, as well as museum education, collection work, and research – all in a way that aligns with current standards.
The goal of these developments was to ensure that the complex content resulting from the institution's diverse nature would be interconnected.
Thus, when someone views an exhibition description, they can immediately see related guided tours, educational sessions, news, and publications. Teachers, who were forced into digital education, can find numerous resources and online museum education tools on the museum's site, while visitors interested in scientific work can explore the National Museum's thematic blog and vlog posts at their leisure.
Thanks to the programming work, the website is also equipped to accommodate new units such as the malenkij.hu site or the Seuso treasure website with its 3D exhibition.

Solution
Ongoing development aligned with current trends
The website has been subject to continuous improvement since the Museum really sees their website as an online frontdoor to the institution which has to be wide open to its visitors all the time. It not only represents the diversified activities of the museum but enables visitors to find information easily thanks to the structured connections of various content elements. Also, flexibility of the structure made it really easy to adapt the website to be the main platform of knowledge-sharing when the pandemic broke out.
