House of Traditions

A clean design for the varied content of a diverse institution

The House of Traditions is one of the most significant cultural institutions of Hungarian folk culture, which focuses on the preservation, research and promotion of Hungarian folk traditions, with special attention to the cultivation of folk arts, folk dance, folk music and crafts.

Challenge

Reflecting changes while maintaining existing structures

We developed their website back in 2017. Since then, the institution has undergone several renewals,  and its role in fostering folk culture has been continuously expanded. In 2023, their image was also refreshed. They wanted their online presence to better reflect these changes and its evolving mission.

As a multifunctional institution, the House of Traditions undertakes research, coordination, training, support, and event organization. Its website also serves as the digital home for the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble and the Hungarian Museum of Applied Arts. During the redesign process, prioritizing transparency and usability was crucial to ensure the site effectively meets the needs of its diverse and varied audience.

Solution

Continuous and clear communication between teams is essential.

The Drupal framework has proven its reliability both in recent years and throughout the redesign process, as we were able to adapt it efficiently to changing needs. One of the key challenges of the renewal was aligning the new visual identity, developed by an external agency, with the existing website structure while implementing the necessary design and functional changes in a cost-effective manner. This alignment was made possible through continuous communication among the three teams involved.
