A map-based database of archeological sites and related information to support international research

The CLIR (Corpus Limitum Imperii Romani) is an international initiative for the research of the Frontiers of the Roman Empire.

Challenge
Promoting international collaboration and increasing the visibility of research
The Clir Research Centre of the University of Pécs has commissioned us to develop a searchable database of sites in the border region of the Roman Empire.

Solution
Headless architecture for fast and aesthetic data visualization
During the development, we created the editorial interfaces responsible for the content administration with Drupal, and we implemented the data visualization and end-user interfaces by developing a Vue.js frontend application.
One of the main challenges of the development was to represent the sites at a building level and to enable access and search for related research materials and results at this level.
Here, Drupal was used more as an Experience Platform, which was enhanced with a number of integration endpoints, allowing it to serve as a data source for other applications in addition to the frontend application we developed.

Our Contribution
