Making the Seuso Treasure and the research project accessible to the general public

The Seuso Treasure is a hoard from the late Roman Imperial period (4th–5th century) that was discovered in the 1970s. For decades after its discovery, it remained hidden from the scientific community. Since 2014, the Seuso Working Committee—appointed by the Museum of Fine Arts, the Hungarian National Museum, and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences—has been conducting a research program aimed at the scientific study of the treasure.

Challenge

Comprehensive documentation of the treasure hoard and its research in an aesthetic format

The official website of the Seuso research project was created jointly by the Museum of Fine Arts and the Hungarian National Museum to provide a broad, scientifically informed presentation of the Seuso Treasure and the research program they coordinate together. Another key objective of the website was to enhance the domestic and international recognition of the Seuso Treasure through the internet, contributing to the establishment of the Seuso brand.

Solution

We designed simple, clean, and easily navigable interfaces, placing significant emphasis on the stunning photographs of the artifacts. It was essential to make relevant information easily accessible to both the general public and professionals, so the treasure and the research project were each given their own dedicated main menu sections. Long, detailed content was made more engaging and digestible with in-page navigation and a playful integration of visual and textual materials.

One of the most exciting elements of the project is a section showcasing the treasure through a timeline and map view.

The Hungarian and English website primarily targets audiences interested in archaeology, art, and culture. In addition to textual and visual content, the site incorporates playful and easy-to-understand infographics, catering to those who prefer visual exploration over reading.
