Challenge
A rapidly growing pilot project
RailNetEurope (RNE) is an association of European Rail Infrastructure Managers. They facilitate the operational international business of its Members by providing solutions that benefit all RNE Members as well as their customers and business partners. We started our cooperation in 2019 in order to deliver a solution that provided data visualization of railway infrastructure capacity which was an international novelty in the sector.
The scope and objectives of the project have been expanded a lot since then and the tool is still in constant and intensive development as it is planned to be one of the essential pillars of digital capacity management.
Solution
Stability with flexibility
The main objective is to help capacity planning, harmonization and management on both national and international level, to facilitate communication among all involved parties (e.g. infrastructure managers, allocation bodies, applicants) and increase transparency in workflow and processing status. In order to achieve these goals, an immense amount of complex and constantly changing data has to be managed by many different stakeholders with their own roles, permissions and workflows. Data has to be visualized in a way it best supports stakeholders
Data sources are also complex systems, so well-defined integrations and advanced export / import features makes data flow easy and secure.
The project takes place in parallel with an international standardization of data structure and of workflows, as well as the constantly changing requirements of European legislation has to be considered, so flexibility and adaptability are very important factors. So as to keep on updating and refining this tool, not only the technological expertise but both team’s strong commitment is extremely important.
