There are cases when we are asked to develop a custom website in a very short time and often with a limited budget. If there is no need to regularly update the content, manage complex processes (e.g search or shopping) or integrate other applications, we suggest a static website instead of Drupal.

When should you consider a static website?
A static website is a website that serves pages using a fixed number of pre-built files composed of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It has no administration interface for editors, and the site content can be changed only by editing the source code. While there are solutions for updating and expanding content, we prefer to build static pages in the following cases:
- typically no content editing is required or content needs to be updated only a few times a year, or
- there is no need to continuously scale the website, expand its content and functionality for the foreseeable future.

Building a static website is typically much quicker and more cost effective than developing a dynamic one, and the cost of maintenance will be practically zero. A static site can consist of several sub-pages, with a freely customisable, animated layout, and with the help of embeddings, we can implement features such as contact, newsletter subscription, ticket purchase, etc.
So far, we have created static websites for the following cases:
- to introduce a start-up project or new business,
- to create an interactive interface for a museum exhibition,
- to develop a website for a pop-up exhibition,
- to showcase a product or service.

What are the pros and cons of a static website?
Pros:
- Significantly faster development time
- Practically no maintenance required
- Minimal storage requirements
- Fast loading time
- Does not require a database
- Completely secure, nothing to be hacked
Cons:
- No or limited editable content
- Difficult to scale
- Content is fixed, no direct interactions with website visitors

How long does it take to develop a static website?
A static website with one or just a few pages can be developed even in a few days. Our team provides customised solutions for static websites as well, so the development is preceded by a design phase. Depending on how well-defined and detailed the requirements are, and how well-prepared the content is, we usually allow at least two weeks for finding the right design. As we organise our work in two-week iterations - so called sprints - , this is the minimum time needed for the development as well. Specific, more complex needs or lengthy review rounds can extend this timeline, but a custom-designed website can be up and running in about a month.
